PNP Brain Health Guide

Here at Professional Nurse Partners, we believe that Brain Health should be apart of everyone's health and care management. Therefore, we provide all our clients with healthy tips and educational material they can implement in their daily lives.

We hope you can take the following Brain Health Guide to help you on your journey to living a healthy brain-healthy lifestyle. If you have any questions about brain health, please feel free to contact me at angelica@professionalnursepartners.com

Physical Exercise- The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week or 75 minutes of vigorous activity. One way to prevent cognitive decline is by practicing in weekly cardiovascular exercise. This elevates your heart rate, and increases the blood flow to your brain, providing additional nourishment while reducing potential dementia risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol

Healthy Diet- The Alzheimer’s Foundation recommends adopting the DASH or Mediterranean diet which promotes choosing low sodium foods and including many fruits and vegetables into her lifestyle. Research has shown that the best two diets to follow to prevent cognitive decline are the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet. Both diets can help reduce heart disease and may also reduce the risk of dementia.

Brain Stimulating Activities- Brain stimulating activities shown to reduce the risk of cognitive decline include reading, puzzles, writing. Mental exercise is just as critical as physical exercise in keeping your brain fit and healthy. Mental exercises may improve your brain’s functioning and promote new brain cell growth, decreasing your likelihood of developing dementia. Like your muscles, you must use your brain, or you lose it.

Sleep and Meditation -Sleep energizes you, improves your mood and your immune system, and may reduce buildup in the brain of an abnormal protein called beta-amyloid plaque, which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Practicing meditation and managing stress may help fend off age-related decline in brain health. Stay positive. Be happy.
